The Sand - Let Them Drink Sand [fsz026]
(January 21, 2005)

The 3 tunes are based upon a song by Philip Judd and sung by Chielie, lead singer of Yoghurt. Chenard Walcker brought some electric meat to fit the lyrics:

'You act as though You are the blind man who's crying
Crying 'bout all the virgins that are dying
In your habitual dreams
You know, it seems you need more sleep
But like a parrot in a flaming tree
I know it's pretty hard to see
And I'm beginning to wonder if it's time for a change
But still you try like the fat boy
Dancing Gershwin's blues
But you'd rather sit at home and watch the news
And I'm beginning to wonder if it's time for a change
I'm beginning to wonder if it's time for a change'

Chenard Walcker - Kalifornia [fsz027]
(January 22, 2005)

Kali is a destructive and creative aspect of God as the Divine Mother in Hinduism. She destroys only to recreate. Kalifornia, dedicated to Kali, was created on that very principle.

Her name seems to be a female version of the word 'kala' (Sanskrit for 'dark' or 'time'- time in this form being a euphemism for death); it also means Black Female, in contrast to her consort, Shiva, who is white; and Kali is the common name for Energy in her form as Shiva's wife, or Shakti. Kali is naked exept her skirt of human arms, and her necklace of fifty human heads. Fifty is the number of letters in the Sanskrit alphabet, from whose sounds Brahma created the world.

Kalifornia is sung by Tony Scott, Asha Bosle, Yogesh and Nida Fazli.

Chenard Walcker - Testez Votre Chaine Hi-Fi Avec... [fsz028]
(March 3, 2002)

This imaginary vinyl album is meant to test your stereo pick-up equipment. Contrary to what the soft voice sugests to you all along, there is no passive listening.

'Testez...' was created by Chenard Walcker in march 2002, but it was only released in early 2005 by the Free Sample Zone.

The Walcker Crew - OK Robot [fsz029]
(February 1, 2005)

Warning : These are metal replica collector toys. Not intended for use by children. As they may have sharp edges.

The Sand - Deck Honey [fsz030]
(February 2, 2005)

Helen Merrill would surely have felt funny about those 4 new versions of 'My Funny Valentine'. The voice was found on her delicious album 'A Shade Of Difference' (1968). Here, her voice meets some false funky drops orchestras buit up by the Sand, who you might also know as Chenard. Anyway, go out and buy the original lp's by Helen Merrill.

The Sand - Diamonds [fsz031]
(February 3, 2005)

The Sand continues his series of ep dedicated to one and only tune. This time the song is Diamonds. The versions were performed by the Three Degrees with Chenard behind desks - one for each new year since 2001.

The Socks - Yin Yang [fsz032]
(February 25, 2005)

The Goof, The Bag and The Ugly are the three legs of The Socks. They went on some ultra classic trash r'n'b tunes to decipher wether a little good was to be found in the baad, or the contrary.

Please forgive them if they appear to you yummy or foolish, they are clumsy and shy but have there some pretty hot beats for ya!

Chenard Walcker - Hands [fsz033]
(April 1, 2005)

Chenard's jazz-age funky cut-n-paste cubist appropriationist art urge the listener to step away from the computer and start dancing, or at least tap those toes. Funk, soul, jazz, and ethnic samples collide seamlessly and effortlessly in these groovy tracks, complemented by Chenard's equally groovy pop art cover graphics.

Originaly released on Webbed Hand Records in nov 2004.

Chenard Walcker - Vodoun [fsz034]
(April 22, 2005)

'Vodoun' plays on the contrast between soulful voices from Benin and the porn grooves of Chenard Walcker. The sound is rough, close to saturation. So Faders up !

Chenard went to Benin (Western Africa) years ago. He bought there some tapes by two traditionnal singers, Le Roi Alokpon and Alekpehanhou. All the voices of 'Vodoun' were sampled from these two tapes.

Benin is where is practiced the rite of Vodoun. It's also historically the place from where the slaves were sent to America. That's how Vodoun was imported to Haiti, and it evolved to Voodoo.

Chenard And The Sand - Holes [fsz035]
(May 16, 2005)

Holes, holes, holes in the O, Michael Jackson, David Axelrod, François de Roubaix, Serge Gainsbourg, Nino Ferrer, Russ Garcia, Soundgarden - holes in the Beach Boys, Miles Davis, Bruno Nicolai, Ennio Morricone, G&M Angelis, Piero Piccioni - holes in a long list of songs with the word 'Hole' in their title... even including some by the Beatles. Shame on Chenard !

The soli on tracks 04, 08 and 09 were played by Remco Takken, Ditmer Weertman and Jelis Stam. They play together in an experimental band called Schors. They sent all their albums to Chenard. Many thanks to them.

The guy on the cover actually killed himself just after he had finished his painting on a Tel Aviv wall.

Chenard Walcker - Heartbreak Pain Cafe [fsz036]
(June 1, 2005)

Captain Beefheart met Chenard for a short recording session. The cute pasty things that came out may be heard as some sort of musical anagrams... Breakbeat heartbreaking anagrams.

The two guys have already worked together once, and created a couple of songs, Tornado [fsz002] and Cruel [fsz004]. And for some more pain, the song Electricity was also released in january 2005 on the Comfortstand Recordings compilation People Doing Strange Things With Electricity Too.

Run - Recycle [fsz037]
(June 18, 2005)

We at FSZ are pleased to welcome a new oola-oop recycling artist who goes by the name of Run. Run is french. Run is cute - Da Doo Run Run - and he's a genuine encaustic tamer.

The music from Recycle was recorded with his combo 'les Tortues Sous Pression' ('Turtles Under Pressure') between 2001 and 2004. It is released here as an ecologic acoustic gesture. We think you should listen to his freak beats and follow his advice : sort to recycle.

Chenard Walcker And Roy Chicky Arad - I Vanunu [fsz040]
(August 1, 2005)

The title 'I Vanunu' is in reference to Mordechai Vanunu, the world's first nuclear hostage, who did 18 years of jail for having revealed to the London Times, in 1986, that Israel was making nuclear weapons. More infos on him here.

The album was recorded in one shot and mixed just afterwards. It wasn't planned, and wouldn't have been done without Ram Orion, who proposed Chicky and Chenard to use his recording skills - and his studio - as they were at a terrasse driking black coffees in Tel Aviv. Back to France, Chenard overdubbed some soli and did artwork after Chicky's suggestions. 'I Vanunu' was also released as plastic by Israeli label Pit/Kit on the 1st of august, just three months after it was recorded. Check out the translation of Chicky's poems.

The Sand - Katie Cruel [fsz042]
(October 5, 2005)

When first I came to town
They called me the roving jewel
Now they've changed their tune
They call me Katie Cruel

Through the woods I'll go
Through the bog and mire
Ride on down the road
And to my hearts desire

Oh that I was what I would be
That what I be that I am not
Here am I where I must be
Go where would I cannot

When first I came to town
They brought me bottles plenty
And now they've changed their tune
They bring me the bottles empty

Oh that I was what I would be
That what I be that I am not
Here am I where I must be
Go where would I cannot

Nelson - La Queue Et Le Con [fsz043]
(October 12, 2005)

This short cut-and-paste album is dedicated to Serge Gainsbourg (1928-1991). It is credited to Nelson, even though made by Chenard Walcker, because all the samples he used here were taken from the Gainsbourg's discography only.

Chenard Walcker - Gaspatxo [fsz044]
(November 19, 2005)

Lyrics like 'Poum-Pa Poum-Pa Poum Doo-Bi-Doo' sure won't hurt anyone. So, you'll probably ask : what's the point? Well, just burn the music on CD and eat it.

The Walcker Crew - Emergency Exits [fsz046]
(March 7, 2006)

Chenard and his crew got back together for a week-end after one year spent apart. They recorded these 5 songs with one idea in mind : Prevent panic!

As the title suggests it, this album is meant to be played in case of emergency only, with the LOOP mode on. LISTENERS IN THEIR REGULAR STATE ARE STRONGLY ADVICED NOT TO LISTEN TO THIS. So just wait for the right occasion, like a plane-crash, hijacking, or any catastrophe you might experience. It may also be useful in Europe with the probable panic over bird flu outbreak.

Chenard Walcker - Moo [fsz047]
(March 29, 2006)

It all began one manic night in late march 2006... Moo is one of the creepiest, wild pumping thingy cut-and-pasted by Chenard Walcker. This is an album with fuzz guitar riffs, heavy swirling organs, hapsichord, flutes, saxophone, smooth voices, horns, weird synthetizers effects, dissonent pianos, sitar, loud basses and a handful of FAT BEATS!

Though it is a perfect match for the amphetamine and speed culture of the junkies that live in Chenard's neighbourhood in Paris, you won't have to take any drug to enjoy this moosika. You might even shout "MOOOOOOO" as a horny camel.

Chenard And The Sand - C-Side [fsz048]
(May 5, 2006)

The Sand was already working on the C-side when Chenard came by. They first did overdubs on a unfinished cut from the Moo sessions, Butterflying, but soon landed and dived deep into the C for the next three tracks. 'One-Armed' is based on guitar patterns recorded by Geoffroy Vincens.

This is the sound of C. The sound which creates a new dimension. This is a new style of music?!!??#

Chenard Walcker - Metamorphoses [fsz049]
(June 22, 2006)

Two books touched me in my childhood : "Where The Wild Things Are" by Maurice Sendak and "The Giving Tree" of Shel Silverstein. I had made a track inspired by the first (in the Comfortstand Recordings album Middle), here is a free variation inspired by the second. These two children's books are absolute poetry.

Chenard Walcker - The Pusher [fsz050]
