Estimates on the flood damage are starting to come in from all over New York. In Broome County, where the Susquehanna River rose to nearly 30 feet, officials counted 800 homes destroyed by flood waters and another 300 severely damaged.

County executives say those numbers will go up once all of the county is assessed. The Emergency Services Director says at the very least, Broome County faces $175 million in flood damage.

The county is one of 12 receiving federal assistance from FEMA. Last week the Governor declared state of disaster emergencies in 13 counties hit by massive flooding. He also promised a $35 million state emergency relief package.
